About Me

I am a clinical psychologist with specialties in clinical neuropsychology and behavioral treatment of chronic medical conditions, including pain.  I provide psychotherapy to help clients deal with a wide variety of behavioral and mental health disorders, as well as interpersonal issues and life stress.  My education includes a Ph.D. degree in Clinical Psychology and specialty training and experience in the areas of chronic pain assessment and treatment, rehabilitation, geriatric psychology, and clinical neuropsychology.  My practice has been divided between the provision of psychotherapeutic treatment and psychological/neuropsychological assessment, but now I provide psychotherapy almost exclusively.  Although my treatment emphasis will vary, depending on the particular needs and characteristics of individual clients, my therapeutic approach is typically grounded in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) theory and methods, though I also make frequent use of mindfulness and cognitive and behavioral methods and techniques.

I am originally from Indianapolis, Indiana and completed my B.A. and M.S. degrees at Indiana University in Bloomington.  I later completed my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at the University of Nevada-Reno and an internship at the J. Haley Veterans Hospital in Tampa, Florida.  While completing my doctoral studies in Reno, I also provided group and individual therapy to chronic pain patients and conducted chronic pain research at an interdisciplinary pain clinic.  I was involved in Dr. Steven Hayes' initial clinical studies of the application of a contextual behavioral approach to the treatment of agoraphobia.  That approach is now widely practiced as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.  My internship training focused on neuropsychological evaluation and geriatric treatment.  I have lived and practiced in Fort Myers, FL since 1993.  From 1993 to 2000, I provided the psychological and neuropsychological services for the Lee Memorial Rehabilitation Hospital in Fort Myers.  Since 2000, I have conducted a private practice in Fort Myers, FL.  I have been  board certified by the American Board of Clinical Neuropsychology in the practice of clinical neuropsychology since 2004.
